Npower Renewables £13million project in North Yorkshire is now in its last phase following delivery of the final 4 wind turbines. The wind farm at Knabs Ridge has been subject to delays resulting from a backlog in turbine manufacture in Europe. Four turbines have been functioning since April 2008 and with the others now under construction it is hoped that the 8-turbine wind farm will be fully operational by mid-July.
The wind farm was originally turned down by Harrogate Borough Council but the decision was overturned by a Government Inspector on grounds that the development agreed with Government’s policy on renewable energy generation.
The 197-acre site near Harrogate contains turbines with a 58m tower and a 70m rotor diameter. It is hoped that in total the site should be able to power around 5,400 homes by producing 16 megawatts of electricity.
